What Statcounter is like
Statcounter is a web analytics service based in Dublin, Ireland, and running since 1999. A small script on each page records sessions, pageviews, traffic sources, locations and devices, shown as summary charts and reports. Its focus is the individual visit: a real-time visitor activity feed, the paths visitors take and a detailed view of each session sit alongside the usual totals.
Prices are set per website and by sessions, not pageviews. The free Basic plan covers 5,000 sessions a month per website and keeps 14 days of data, with no limit on the number of websites. Premium starts at $9 a month for 20,000 sessions and keeps 3 years of data. Premium Plus adds heatmaps, Google Ads integration and UTM campaign tracking, with 5 years of data. Yearly billing saves 10%, and session replay is a paid add-on.
By default Statcounter sets a first-party cookie and records full IP addresses. Both can be changed in the project settings: cookies can be switched off, and IP masking drops the last part of each address. A 30-day trial of all features needs no credit card.
